CAAB — Drone Registration and Flying Regulation 2020
Bangladesh has a relatively structured framework based on colour-coded zones (green/yellow/red) and weight thresholds. The CAAB requires permits well in advance for almost all drone activities.
Only for exempt drones (under 250 g, no camera/audio) in the 'Green Zone'; elsewhere a specific permit is required.
Mandatory for UAS over 248 g or with a radio control range over 100 m.
Remote Pilot Certificate required for higher drone categories, through the CAAB.
Zones to avoid
No-fly zones usually follow the same recurring categories (airports, military sites, protected areas, historic centers). For this country: Green/Yellow/Red zone system: Yellow/Red zones (near airports, government buildings) require a security clearance to be submitted 45 days in advance.

Why registration exists
Operator registration exists for accountability: if a drone causes an incident or enters a restricted zone, the authority needs to be able to trace it back to whoever was flying it. You usually get an identification number (operator ID) to physically attach to the drone, valid for every drone the same person owns. The cost is often minimal or free, and it applies to visiting tourists too, not just residents. For Bangladesh, the official reference remains Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). Mandatory for UAS over 248 g or with a radio control range over 100 m.
How this usually works
Here the requirement depends on factors like the drone's weight, distance from people, or use case (recreational vs. commercial). The note above describes the most common case: if your situation is different, check the official source to see exactly which scenario applies to you before flying. The exam and certificate are handled by Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). Remote Pilot Certificate required for higher drone categories, through the CAAB.
