New national regulation (from 1 January 2026)

Kazakhstan introduced a stricter regime from 2026, with mandatory registration for any drone from 250 g upward, managed through the eGov.kz state portal; a June 2026 law further tightened control with a UAV traffic management system.

Operator registration
Yes, required

Mandatory from 1/1/2026 for drones ≥250 g or fitted with a camera/sensors, free, via eGov.kz with a digital signature.

Depends on the case

No specific pilot licence requirement confirmed by an official source.

Zones to avoid

No-fly zones usually follow the same recurring categories (airports, military sites, protected areas, historic centers). For this country: Details on specific zones not confirmed in this research.

What isn't 100% confirmed yet

Very recent regulation (2026): several technical details are not yet confirmable against a complete official source.

Registration

Why registration exists

Operator registration exists for accountability: if a drone causes an incident or enters a restricted zone, the authority needs to be able to trace it back to whoever was flying it. You usually get an identification number (operator ID) to physically attach to the drone, valid for every drone the same person owns. The cost is often minimal or free, and it applies to visiting tourists too, not just residents. For Kazakhstan, the official reference remains Civil Aviation Committee — Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan. Mandatory from 1/1/2026 for drones ≥250 g or fitted with a camera/sensors, free, via eGov.kz with a digital signature.

Pilot license

How this usually works

Here the requirement depends on factors like the drone's weight, distance from people, or use case (recreational vs. commercial). The note above describes the most common case: if your situation is different, check the official source to see exactly which scenario applies to you before flying. The exam and certificate are handled by Civil Aviation Committee — Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan. No specific pilot licence requirement confirmed by an official source.
